What to Do on a Day Trip to the Lake George Area

Whether you want to relax or indulge in exciting and fun activities, you can have it all on your day trip to Lake George.

If you’re taking a day trip to Lake George, rest assured that there are plenty of things you can see and do.

From the fascinating nature and intriguing pieces of history to water-based fun and relaxation, you can spend a day filled with Lake George activities and leave feeling rejuvenated and fresh.

In this article, we’ll show you the most enjoyable things to do in Lake George even when you’re only visiting for a day.

1. Get on the Water

It’s impossible to visit the area and miss the lake itself, what with its gorgeous landscape and clear, calm water. Plenty of services have developed around this natural treasure. So today, there’s a broad offer for everyone who wants to experience Lake George at its finest.

You could opt for a boat tour where you can go sightseeing and soak in the surrounding beauty.  Then, if you feel like it, you can jump in the lake to refresh and have a swim.

There are also cruises on larger boats and you could even experience cruising on a real steamboat. Additionally, some tours will take you on a visit to several of the lake’s islands.

But if you’re after some more excitement, forgo the boats and jump on a jet ski, raft, or go water skiing. Rafting offers you several options that include tubing and fast-paced whitewater adventures.

Finally, you can check out paddleboards, scuba diving, or exotic parasailing experiences. Much of the fun of the area is waiting right on the lake, so you should make sure to hit the water on your day trip to Lake George.

2. Visit Lake George Village

With a population of under 1,000, Lake George Village is a charming place with lovely parks, popular restaurants, and lakeside resorts. Those spending the holiday in the area will likely find accommodations here among the variety of hotels, motels, lodges, and inns.

But if you’re visiting only for a day, you might miss out on the lively town and all it has to offer.

Are you looking for a bite to eat or a refreshing drink? You can choose between many restaurants, cafes, and bars that serve everything from coffee and food-to-go to international cuisine, craft drinks, and cocktails. And while indulging your taste buds, you can enjoy the view of the lake from a lakefront deck, garden, or rooftop.

There are also seasonal events you could catch all year long. And when it comes to spending a fun day in the town, checking out the unique shops and taking a few swings at a mini-golf course are a must.

You can go around and discover some of the nightlife hotspots and enjoy live music in a great atmosphere to bring a perfect day to an end.

3. Take to the Trees, Rapids, or the Sky

Those up for an adventure will find plenty of things to do in Lake George on land, water, or even up in the air.

You can try your skills on one of the treetop adventure tracks. It’s where you can traverse parts of the Adirondack over wooden platforms up among the trees. But if you want something even more physical, there are rope courses and you can go zip-lining for an adrenaline hit.

We’ve already mentioned whitewater rafting as a great way to experience a water-based adventure. In addition, you can go kayaking on various rapids – from the calmer to the wild, exciting ones.

But if you’d like to see the area from a completely different perspective and aren’t afraid of heights, there are several ways to take to the sky.

The tamer yet very exciting option is to go on a helicopter ride where you’ll see Lake George as if on the palm of your hand. But if you like flying at a lower altitude, try parasailing. While the view isn’t as impressive as that from a chopper ride, the experience is quite thrilling, safe, and doesn’t require much skill.

For the most exciting airborne adventure, you could dare to go skydiving. A day’s visit won’t provide you with enough time to work on your skydiving license, but there’s plenty of opportunity for a tandem jump with a professional. Jumping off a plane certainly isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. However, if you’re up for it, the experience will be one of the most memorable and thrilling you’ve ever had.

4. Go for an Entertaining Ride

Returning to the ground level, you should head south of the lake to Queensbury to check out the most fun activities in the area. These are best enjoyed if you’re with family or friends, but even those making a solo one-day getaway can have a great time.

In particular, there are two centers you should visit – The Fun Spot and Adventure Family Fun Center.

Waiting there are go-karts, bumper cars, paintball, laser tag, mini-golf, and many other games where you can compete with friends. And if you want to have great fun on your own, you can try out your rock-wall climbing or roller skating skills or have a go at various arcade games.

The only thing to be careful about is not to spend the entire day immersed in the games – it would be best to spend a couple of hours in one of the centers and not forget about the wonders that await outside.

Find Excitement and Relaxation in a Single Day

The abundance of Lake George activities will ensure your day’s filled with wonderful experiences. Once you discover all of the things to do in Lake George, the memories will make you want to return and experience the beauty and fun of the area all over again.
