10 Experiences You Can Only Get in Kelowna

10 Experiences You Can Only Get in Kelowna

Not sure where to start your vacation in Kelowna? Some regional attractions deserve higher priority on your itinerary. Check out some of the biggest crowd-drawers in and around the city.

Right in the heart of British Columbia, Kelowna is a city that provides a quiet vacation destination. It’s not without its fair share of adventures, but most of these include winery and scenic tours.

Some of the top attractions are also entirely unique to the region. And it’s another reason why Kelowna draws such big crowds every year.

#1. Kelowna Vineyards

Kelowna Kelowna Vineyards

Of the many attractions in Kelowna, the local vineyards are among the most popular with tourists. And Okanagan Valley has some of the finest wines in the region. Here you can tour over a dozen local Kelowna wineries and enjoy some wine tasting.

Many are family-run operations, which makes the experience even more eclectic and rewarding.

#2. Kettle Valley Railway

Kelowna Kettle Valley Railway

A trip to Kelowna isn’t complete without some outdoor activities. And one of the best things to do in Kelowna is riding a bike on the Kettle Valley Railway.

The trail network features many trestle bridges, perfect for biking against amazing backdrops. You can also hike the former railway. But since renting a bike in the area is cheap, it’s best to do so for you to explore more of the sights.

#3. Scandia Golf and Games

Kelowna Scandia Golf and Games

Do you want to connect with your inner child? Are you traveling with kids? Then Scandia Golf and Games is an entertainment center you don’t want to miss.

Its jungle-themed mini-golf courses are a hit with tourists. You can also take your chances on the go-kart track. There’s a massive arcade if you feel the need for some retro-style action. And don’t dismiss the amount of fun you can have in the batting cage.

It’s all-around entertainment for all ages.

#4. Maeg’s BBQ Boats

Kelowna Maeg’s BBQ Boats

If you’re tired of downtown Kelowna, take to the waters. Maeg’s BBQ Boats is one of the most popular attractions in the region.

Here you can rent out donut-shaped vessels and take a scenic trip with up to nine other people. Fire up the BBQ, have a beer, and grill your favorite food while enjoying the experience.

If you have no boating experience, that’s not a problem. You can rent a boat with its own staffer captain that handles the navigation for you while you concentrate on the BBQ.

#5. Kelowna City Park

Kelowna Kelowna City Park

The 32-acre waterfront park makes for a perfect place for family activities during the summer. It features offshore platforms, sandy beaches, and many playgrounds. It also hosts a water park that’s sure to keep your kids entertained.

The paved trails keep joggers safe and circle the park offering spectacular views. You can also sit down in any of the green spaces to have a picnic. If you want something more entertaining, take to the soccer field or tennis court. There’s even a lawn bowling alley in the park.

Talk about a variety of activities!

#6. SS Sicamous Okanagan Heritage Museum

Kelowna SS Sicamous Okanagan Heritage Museum

Ever wanted to experience life on a luxury steamboat? You can do it in Kelowna. Right on the Penticton waterfront, you’ll find the SS Sicamous Okanagan Heritage Museum. It’s a climb-aboard-style museum in a restored 1914 luxury steamboat.

While there, check out the mahogany Grand Staircase and the Gentleman’s Saloon. And don’t forget to take a tour of the engine room and gaze upon its enormous boilers. There’s also a scale model of the old Kettle Valley Railroad on display.

But what’s even better? The waterfront houses more historic vessels, including a tugboat from 1914 and a steamship from 1907.

#7. Kasugai Gardens

Kelowna Kasugai Gardens

One of the top attractions in Kelowna is also free to visit. Near downtown, the Kasugai Gardens offers an oasis of calm for tired tourists and locals. It’s one of the few places in the heart of the city where you can get peace and quiet.

Take a stroll behind the City Hall and you can’t miss it. Koi fish populate the ponds and the gorgeous exotic flowers offer a picturesque delight. There are plenty of benches for you to sit down and relax, away from the bustle of the city.

#8. Hoof Prints Barnyard Petting Zoo

Kelowna Hoof Prints Barnyard Petting Zoo

If you want hands-on interaction with animals, try the local petting zoo. The Hoof Prints Barnyard Petting zoo offers an immersive farm life experience for both adults and kids.

Young ones can go on pony rides, while others can help with daily activities. But it’s the close interaction with a variety of animals that attracts the most tourists here.

#9. Big White

Kelowna Big white Ski Resort

When you visit Kelowna has a lot to do with the activities you can enjoy. But if you head there sometime in the latter half of the year, why not spend time skiing?

Open from the first of July, the Big White is a fantastic ski resort. It features 16 lifts and no fewer than 118 runs for passionate skiers. The resort also offers a shopping shuttle, a kid’s center, and many other facilities.

You can book a whole vacation just at the Big White and still leave Kelowna satisfied.

#10. Okanagan Lavender and Herb Farm

Kelowna Okanagan Lavender and Herb Farm

Many attractions in Kelowna provide plenty of relaxation opportunities. Such a perfect location for it is the Okanagan Lavender and Herb Farm.

This farm harvests local herbs for use in various syrups, essential oils, and other organic products. Aside from buying products, you can also take a tour of the farm.

Visiting in the summer is the best time as most of the plants are in full bloom.

A Serene Valley with Lots of Unique Things to See

Kelowna may not be the top choice for thrill-seekers. Yet it’s a great family vacation spot in the heart of British Columbia.

Whether visiting in the summer or winter, there’s always something fun to do. There are plenty of sights to see or tours to take of the many fantastic wineries and local farms.

If you’re looking for a quieter destination, Kelowna might surprise you in many ways.

  • The Bluebird Cafe: While not technically on Broadway, The Bluebird Cafe holds a special place in Nashville’s musical heart. This intimate venue gained fame for its songwriters’ nights, where some of the biggest names in country music have performed their hits in a stripped-down setting. It’s a smaller space, so booking tickets in advance is highly recommended. You might just witness the next big hit being played for the very first time.

With live music throughout the day and night, it’s a great spot to hop in and out of as you explore the Honky Tonk Highway. Their BBQ is also worth a try!
